The groom’s attire may be not as complicated as the bride’s but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t put much effort into it. There are still some things that you need to consider when choosing your attire, though that would depend on the type of wedding you are having. For groom attire ideas, you may check out this helpful guide.

Ultraformal Wedding

There are two options for this type of wedding. For daytime, the ideal is a cutaway coat (penguin style), gray-striped trousers and a gray vest. You can have a white dress shirt with wing or turndown collar, an ascot and black shoes. Top it off with a silk top hat, gray kid gloves and a Lily of the Valley boutonniere. For an evening ceremony, instead of the cutaway jacket choose a full dress coat. Swap all gray for black, except for the kid gloves, which should be white. Replace the vest with a cummerbund for a night-at-the-opera look.

Formal Wedding

For daytime, choose a gray or black tuxedo or cutaway jacket and a white pleated or plain bosom shirt with wing or turndown collar, with matching vest. For the neckwear, pick a gray ascot, but you may also opt for a standard necktie. For late afternoon or evening, a black tux is perfect. Match it with a white wing-collared shirt, either a black vest or cummerbund plus black bow tie. You may also swap the bow tie for a long, white tie.

Semi-Formal Wedding

If the wedding is during the day, the formal suit should have a white dress shirt inside, choose either a cummerbund or vest outside plus a bow tie. If it’s performed in the late afternoon or evening, a dinner jacket with cufflinks and studs will do. Have a matching trousers and a black bow tie to complete that semi-formal look.

Casual Wedding

Casual is nowhere near dirty jeans and stained T-shirt. It just means “informal.” For a summer wedding, either a combination of white trousers and a blue blazer or a full khaki or linen suit will do. For an evening ceremony, match a solid-colored suit with a white, turndown-collared shirt. Complete the look with a graphic tie and a white boutonniere.

Men can be forgetful sometimes. That’s why in preparation for your wedding, it wouldn’t hurt to have a list of things to do – a groom checklist, so to speak. To help you make your list, check out the tasks you should be doing prior to your wedding.

Six Months

Discuss with your fiancee the expenses and budget.

Start writing down your guest list.

Pick your best man.

Determine how many ushers are needed (1 for every 50 guests) then select them.

Check with wedding officiant to discuss the ceremony.

Discuss with your fiancée your honeymoon plans.

If traveling outside the country, start making legal arrangements (passport, visas, etc).

Three Months

Place an order for wedding rings and engraving.

Complete the guest list and give it to your fiancee.

Arrange for the payment of the bride’s bouquet.

Consult with your fiancee about your wedding attire as well your wedding party’s.

Arrange transportation needs (limousines, etc.).

Finalize honeymoon plans: tickets, room reservations, etc.

Start ordering boutonnieres for the men and corsages for mothers

Complete marriage license requirements.

6-8 Weeks

Plan the rehearsal dinner with your parents.

Consult with your fiancee on the lodgings for out of town relatives and ushers.

Choose gifts for the best man and ushers

Buy a wedding gift for the bride.

Attend your bachelor party.

Pick up the wedding rings, make sure to check the engraving.

Help your fiancee in sending out wedding invitations.

Two Weeks

Get your marriage license.

Arrange transportation from the reception to the airport or train.

Check your honeymoon reservations and the hotel for wedding night.

One Week

Go through with the head usher any special seating arrangements .

Prepare the wedding officiant’s fee in a sealed envelope and hand it to the best man, to be given after the ceremony.

Organize your finances for your trip.

Start packing for the honeymoon.

Remind your best man and the ushers about the details of the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner.

Prepare your wedding toast

Prepare gifts for the attendants, to be given at the rehearsal dinner.

After you’re done with your checklist, don’t forget to plan for the things that must be completed after the wedding, like sending thank you notes to your bride’s parents and to other special people in your wedding.

In a wedding, it’s always the bride’s dress that catches attention the most. But this doesn’t mean that a groom’s attire is not worth the effort. A groom’s wedding attire should hold its own beside the bride’s. To help you make your formal wear look great, here are some tips to consider.

Good fit

Make sure that everything fits well. The suit jacket should allow you to make a full range of movements, whether it’s buttoned or unbuttoned. Remember that you wouldn’t just stand stiffly during the whole event. There would be lots of shaking of hands, hugging and dancing.

One finger should fit between your shirt’s collar and your neck. For the cuffs, it should exactly rest at the wrist and must not ride up every time you stretch your arms. Your vest should fit comfortably when buttoned and ride just below your pant’s waistband. As for the pants, It should hit just about 1/3 of the way down your shoe.

Dress accordingly

You have a wide range of formal wear options, depending on how formal your wedding is and the time of day. For example, if you are going for a late afternoon wedding, a standard tux is fine as opposed to a suit with cutaway jacket, which is appropriate for a formal daytime wedding.

Accessorize

Wearing a dapper suit is not enough. Accessories can make you look more dashing as they turn your suit into an impressive ensemble. Stylish cuff links and stud sets can make your formal wedding attire look great and elegant. For your vest, choose a color and pattern that complements with the wedding party’s attire.

You have a choice between a long tie or a bow tie to complete your formal wedding attire. For a tuxedo, remember that long ties are less formal than bow ties. Also, take note that white ties are for ultra-formal themes, black ties are for formal and colored ties could fit in just about any occasion.

Make sure that you’ll be wearing a simple yet elegant leather shoes. Take the time to give them a professional shine to have them looking great.

The rehearsal dinner is an opportunity for the wedding couple’s family and the members of the wedding party to socialize just before the big day. It is usually held the day before the wedding, right after the wedding rehearsal. It is also the best time to go over and clarify last minute details regarding the wedding.

While wedding rehearsal dinner etiquette is not set in stone to allow a few adjustments, there are some practices that are best to follow.

The Guest List

Preferably, aside from the immediate family of the couple, the guest list should only include the people who are required to be in the wedding rehearsal. As a courtesy, the officiating person is also invited, but he may choose not to attend, especially if he is not particularly close to the couple.

Formality

Many couples choose a more casual rehearsal dinner. But in general, rehearsal dinners can either be formal or informal. Couples who opt for a casual rehearsal dinner decide so because they are “reserving” the formality for the next day.

The Menu

Rehearsal dinner menus are not as elaborate as the wedding menu. A casual fare of pizza and pasta or barbeque and sandwiches is the common choice although for a formal gathering, a catered dinner is more appropriate. Serving alcohol is generally moderated, if not avoided, to keep the guests from feeling the effects the following day, at the wedding.

Gifts

While some guests may drop off their gifts for the couple, it is best, however, to have the couple take the opportunity to give gifts themselves. Many couples take this moment to present thoughtful gifts to their parents and the wedding attendants. This is to express the couple’s gratitude for their involvement in the wedding preparation.

The groom and his family are usually the ones in charge of the dinner but there are couples who prefer to arrange the event themselves while others opt to split the burden with their parents.

In conclusion, wedding rehearsal dinner etiquette is less strict that the etiquette for the wedding. But it is important to have proper guidelines to help everyone, especially the couple, enjoy the occasion.

A beach wedding is considered informal so, obviously, a formal attire is not required. Normally, the groom’s outfit is uncomplicated to plan. This is even truer when deciding on the groom’s attire for beach wedding. To help you decide on a beach wedding attire, consider the following tips:

Match the bride’s attire

The most important thing to consider when thinking of a beach wedding attire for the groom is whether it matches the bride’s dress. The wedding might be informal yet the couple’s attire should still be matching.

Know the location

it is necessary to determine the exact location of the ceremony before choosing the groom’s attire for a beach wedding. Will you be actually on the beach or just near the beach? This consideration will help you decide whether to wear long pants or shorts.

How informal is informal?

You have the option to be in a less formal style, like wearing a nice pair of dark shorts with a polo shirt or be semi-casual, wearing a pair of jeans or pants with a button down shirt or polo shirt. Sandals would be ideal in this setting.

Choose the right material

Finally, to keep your body cooler, a light-colored linen suit is the recommended choice. Match this perfectly with a bright tie.

Have you been to many weddings? If you’ve been invited to witness wedding ceremonies as much as I’ve been, chances are that you’ve also noticed how all the grooms looked the same. They’re all wearing a tuxedo!

Not that I have anything against tux, but if I can help it, I’d prefer that grooms wear something else. For a change. If you are a groom looking for an alternative groom attire, good for you.

You see, one of the disadvantages of wearing a tux is that after the wedding, you’ll find out that there aren’t really any other occasion where you can wear your tux again, unlike a black suit – unless, of course, you’re James Bond.

A nice formal suit and tie is a great alternative attire for the groom especially if you want something that you could wear again. Make it a point to match the tie color with the overall theme of the wedding.

For a semi-formal wedding, a formal suit jacket paired with dark trousers is a great idea. This is also perfect if the ceremony is during the daytime. Have a white shirt under that jacket and you are good to go.

Whatever alternative groom attire you prefer, keep in mind that it’s the theme of the wedding that dictates what’s the best attire for the groom. Still, if you can work your way around it, nix that tux.
